Community owned since 2020, when over twenty thousand volunteer hours went into a massive refurbishment, The Gun at Ridsdale is a traditional country inn set in the heart of the beautiful Northumberland countryside.
is very close to Northumberland National Park which makes it the perfect base for ramblers and cyclists who want to make the most of our countryside at a leisurely pace.
A Brilliant Find in Northumberland.
We stayed here overnight for a wedding in August and we were blown away with how lovely this place was. We were greeted warmly and shown straight to our room. The staff couldn’t do enough for us. The pub had a cozy feel to it and the breakfast was fresh and tasty. The rooms were modern with a homely feel. As well as there being plenty of wonderful locations nearby to walk to. We’ll definitely be back for another great trip. Thank you to all the staff who made us feel welcome.

Great stop on the A68
We were so pleased to draw into the little car park that looked over such beautiful countryside. Walked into a warm welcome with a big pot of tea and delicious scones. We sat near the large window to enjoy the panoramic view. So great that the community has kept this cafe and pub going.

A lovely coffee stop
We stayed at Redewater Lodge & went for a little drive & came upon the Gun. We decided to stop & what a good call it was. We just had coffee & scones but they were absolutely delicious & the coffee was very good as well. The ladies serving were very friendly & said the scones were fresh out of the oven. This is how a community pub should be run. Well worth a stop & they do b&b as well

Nice and friendly pub
Visited here for coffee & cake on a Saturday morning. It wasn’t officially open, but the staff served us anyway. Food was very nice and good coffee. Very friendly and helpful staff. Pub also offers motorhome overnight stopovers. We will be back

Friendly community run pub with rooms
A great stopover on A68 (but could easily have stayed for few days to explore more!). This friendly community run pub with 4 rooms was saved from the developers a couple of years ago - thank goodness!! It has evidently become the hub of the local community but welcomes visitors with a genuine smile, good ales and pub food. The rooms are modern, clean and comfortable. The prices are very reasonable too. The 2 north facing rooms have fantastic long views over the Cheviots. Highly recommended and will return next time heading north (or south!)

Brilliant, Fabulous and Excellent
Fabulous, extremely friendly and accomodating. Excellent food - a brilliant stay. I'm diabetic and the staff adapted the menu accordingly. We stayed for four nights and ate breakfast and evening meal which were all delicious.... Strange sausages!

The Gun Hits The Mark For Us
Warm Welcome from staff and plenty of parking available for those travelling by car. The pub area and rooms have all benefited from regent updates and our room had plenty of space, comfortable bed and pleasant decor. The bathroom had a powerful shower and rainfall shower option with plenty of hot water and nicely warned by heating ready for us AM. Slept well as the area is v quiet in the countryside. Evening meal menu offered a reasonable choice with something for everyone, staff again friendly and arranged drinks and food without any fuss or delays. Chef turned out steaks as ordered and tasty starters/puddings. Would have liked a few more beer options available for those of us who enjoy ale, but there's plenty of mainstream options and that's more a suggestion than criticism. Breakfast again offered a reasonable selection and the full English didn't disappoint. No delays on service and we left The Gun delighted with our stay.
